Depending on the type of surgeon he is there is sites on line to check if he is board certified. For Ob/gyns it's called the american college of Gynecologist The plastic surgeons I think is called the association of plastic surgeons. Usually their is a link that you can put in your doctors name and if they are board certified it'll show their credentials and their specialty. You could also check with your states regulatory agency or the american medical association. My doctor friends always tell me that it is okay to ask the surgeon directly how many surgeries of this kind have they done. What is their success rate and what kind of complications have they dealt with.

But like everyone else says if you have bad feelings about him change doctors. Some surgeons have a god complex. That doesn't make them bad just full of themselves. It's more important in my opinion to have a better personal relationship with your oncologist. Just make sure your surgeon is competent and has a good track record.
