My grandmother was a breast cancer survivor so I have been getting annual mammograms since the age of 35. Nonetheless, my most recent mammo (diagnostic with ultrasound) came back negative for BC following an appointment with my gyn for breast pain and an inverted nipple. Thank goodness he insisted I consult a surgeon!
That was last month, May 2013. After a surgical biopsy of my right breast and diagnosis of IBC (grade 3 tumor with unclear margins), I had a modified radical mastectomy and 2 lymph nodes removed on June 18, 2013.
Needless to say, I am still in SHOCK about the whole thing...
I now await an appointment with my oncologist on July 2 to discuss chemotherapy options.
