It has been four days since my second treatment and I am beginning to lose what's left. As hard as it may be, I have decided to shave the remainder and try to get past it.

Hi LD,
I just finished my second cycle of chemo and also have had anxiety about my hair loss. I love my hair and it was traumatic to think of losing it. Mine started falling out 13 days after my first cycle and I went in and got a buzz cut. It was easier to get rid of it myself instead of watching my very long hair fall out all around me. Id begun shedding all over the place. I bought myself an awesome wig that looks like my hair did before and I wear that now anytime I'm in public. People can't even tell the difference. When I'm at home I just throw on a scarf.

Family Member or Loved OneHi Brett I just finished my chemo last month. I had 4 rounds of Adriamiacin/Cytoxin followed by 4 dose dense rounds of Taxol. My hair started growing back around my last chemo treatment. It's about an inch long now. :)
1 comment 2I finished chemo middle of June. I did 12 weekly Taxol chemos and 3 Taxetere doses. My hair started coming back about a month after chemo ended, like fuzz. I also got white long hairs, double the length of my others, but those fell out! Several other women got those white hairs too, even on face,...

I also got white long hairs, double the length of my others, but those fell out! Several other women got those white hairs too, even on face, but they fall out, so no need to freak. My hair is now about half an inch, thicker on top, thinner in back. The rest of body hair all grew back too, and I am shaving again. My eyebrows are about 2/3rds back. My eyelashes started coming back in September. I lost eyelashes even after chemo ended.

Learning About Breast CancerWe are beautiful with or without hair! When my husband shaved off my hair, I told everyone no wigs I'm beautiful just like this! Don't forget to cover your head when your outside.

Learning About Breast CancerI did mine about a month later, I was shocked that my scalp burned so much, but after a few times it was fine
Comment 1The only thing I have heard from a friend was that when a colleague of hers tried coloring her hair while on tamoxifen the color wouldn't take! Hope that is just a fluke thing that happened to her. Lucky for her she embraced the gray and looks great! As far as the length, I say whenever you are...

Stage 2B PatientHi Connie, mine was like that too. :). I also had small red bumps. Thankfully it didn't last long. My oncologist told me to use an oatmeal bath (aveeno was good). Once all your hair is gone the roots won't be so irritated. :).
Comment 0I used my regular shampoo and conditioner. I always had a tiny bit of very fine, very light, peach fuzz that never came out. Some days I just used shampoo, other days both, no rhyme or reason.

Stage 2B PatientMind hurt while my stubbies came out, try silk pillow cases and leaving your head air out !
Comment 0Hi Connie, I never had a headache but my scalp was very tender!!! My scalp had little red bumps all over as well. My dr said to wash gently with Dove then put a very thin coat of Eurcerin. It got better when all the hair was gone. :).

Survivor since 2012After I had mine cut short (around day 16), I woke up to a "fur" pillow a few days later.... I had purchased a wig, so I had my friend buzz my head. It was the best decision for me, so I wouldn't have to deal with the shedding!! Good luck with the rest of your treatment!!
Comment 0I had a friend that does hair shave my hair n then I just put on my wig. Much easier than watching all my long hair come out.

I also had my hairdresser friend shave my long hair when it started falling out. I got a synthetic wig and it looked just like my hair. It was light and didn't really bother me.I just wasn't one of those women that could walk around bald, although I give them credit. I hadnt heard much bout the cold cap. I just think, no matter what you do, certain chemos make you lose hair, just a part of the process. Now almost two years after dx my hair has grown back, still short, but I love it n it is way healthier. You will get through this. Have faith
Earlier, we had a bit of a discussion about the cold cap. You must ask your oncologist about it as there is some talk about it interferring with the chemotherapy. SInce chemo. attacks fast growing cells, which hair is, the cold cap keep the chemotherapy from reaching the scalp. Your cancer...
Earlier, we had a bit of a discussion about the cold cap. You must ask your oncologist about it as there is some talk about it interferring with the chemotherapy. SInce chemo. attacks fast growing cells, which hair is, the cold cap keep the chemotherapy from reaching the scalp. Your cancer could hide out in that tissue. Hopefully, some others will come forth with more information about the pluses and minuses of the cold cap. Last work always comes from your oncologist. Remember.... Bald, is beautiful! Take care, Sharon

Hi Kim, my Oncologist told me my hair would start to come out approx 14 days after my first chemo treatment. She was right on the mark! I had long hair & I noticed it coming out when I shampooed. It's a very personal choice but I decided to have my boyfriend give me a "buzz" cut when I first noticed it really coming out. It was easier for me. I felt it would be too difficult seeing it come out in clumps. I felt more empowered that way. Losing my hair wasn't easy...but I must say the fear and dread of losing it was harder than it actually being gone. I wore scarves a lot. And sometimes wigs. I just went "commando" around the house. Some women are comfortable going bald all the time & I think that's beautiful. Just put on some big hoop earrings & "work it". As you can see in my photo...my hair is coming back just as thick as it was before (just a little grayer but I haven't seen my natural hair color in years ;). There are beautiful scarves. My fav one I received through Good Wishes. Their website is Goodwishesscarves.org. They are lovely and are given free of charge. What a wonderful organization!
I started to lose my hair a few hours after my 2nd treatment. I asked my husband to shave my head, with tears in both our eyes he did it. I love my bald head, the hair has started to grow now :)
