Did you get an oncotype dx test done? That was helpful for me and my oncologist to determine my plan

Hi. Again. My score was a 9 oddly enough. That lymph node worried me. My team gave me a lot of info on people with 1-3 nodes and how most are treated the same as those with no nodes. I'm doing 37 round of radiation and 10 years of tamoxifen....

I'm doing 37 round of radiation and 10 years of tamoxifen. There are. Nights I hope I did the right thing. However I think a lot of doctors use chemo as a preventive measure. I wasn't willing to put my body through that for 3% more survival.

It's a really hard decision. I took 3-4 weeks to make mine. I was stage one, grade 2-3 IDC w clear nodes. I chose chemo. I dragged my feet towards it bc I hated the idea of it and all the changes it brings. I'm now finished chemo (1.5 weeks out) and can honestly say it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. I really went with my intuition. I tried to continuously convince myself that I'd be fine without it but I couldn't escape it. I didn't want to look back w regrets or look forward w fear. It's what I had to do. Everyone is different. There are a lot of people who didn't go with chemo & are fine! My only advice is that you listen to your intuition and don't let fear decide for you, whichever way you go. Chemo isn't easy...being bald is a trying adjustment but it's all very doable. You find the strength and you power through. Good luck to you!

I know, it's really really difficult. The hardest experience of my life by a long shot. BUT, you'll 100% get through it. Make a decision based on what sits right with you. I had a double mastectomy...i opted for it rather than a lumpectomy. It was something else that I intuitively felt I needed - sometimes I could scream about my "intuition". :). I still remember when chemo was mentioned, felt like a dream. It's been almost 6 months since my diagnosis. It's not easy...but I can't stress how doable it is. I wear my wig...it was so foreign in the beginning, now it's just apart of my everyday. It's amazing what our minds/bodies can normalize. Trust your gut. Please don't let fear get in the way...either way you decide...fear can linger. Shut it out...pray...and really have faith. You and I are both very fortunate to have caught it early. I chose to feel very thankful for that. I'll be thinking about you! Don't hesitate with any questions/concerns/thoughts. This site is filled with amazing ladies who know exactly what you're going through...they've been here for me with every need I've put out there. Sending you lots of love and light!

Gillian thank you so much. I am having double om may12 and pushing for chemo with oncotype score of 26. Recommending lumpectomy and radiation but know myself we'll enough to know I'll look back with regret if I don't do everything I can to prevent recurrence. High grade IDC. Was questioning decision til I read your and Connies's posts

My doctor didn't do any of the oncotype test. I chose to do the mist aggressive treatment my body could stand. I want to do the most I could do to kill the cancer.

Just had a lumpectomy last Friday. Not sure what stage my cancer is yet. My aunt a survivor with stage 2 suggested that if I had a choice better between radiation and chemo, is to do both. Think positive, hair do grow back! Gillian is right, you know what is best for you. Good luck!
