Have you seen an Oncologist&/or Radiation Oncologist yet? They should have done the ER, PR, and Her2 status with the biopsy if you had it done, at least that's when mine was done. My first biopsy showed T1cN0M0 and ER+, PR+, and Her2-. I did a mastectomy, chemo., and rads. even though the lymph nodes removed were all negative.

      Thanks Betti.

Did you ask your doctor, why Chemo was being given, and how many cycles of chemo were you given. My Er, PR,HER2 reports will come after a week...

Chemo. was a possibility before my mastectomy due to the size of the area(s) involved but nixed by my surgeon. I had an OncoType DX test to see if chemo. was needed and was aiming for a # of 18 and below. I came in right at 18 and was told I could get by with an Estrogen blocker only but if I agreed to chemo. it dropped the recurrance rate way down. I was originally told I'd be doing a TC regimen, 1 every 3 weeks for 4-6 times with a blood boosting shot the day afterwards. Just before my 2nd infusion the onc. told me I could get by with 4 rather than the full 6 and did indeed do a TC regimen and Neulasta shot. She also felt I needed rads. but that's not her area of speciality due to the closeness of the edge of the breast to the chest muscle which my surgeon elected to leave intact since it looked OK. I saw a radiation onc. who told me I did need rads. but his reason was the distance between the more agressive tumor (had 2 areas) and a 3rd one found on mastectomy pathology (third different type I believe). The surgeon also removed 8 nodes all of which were negative but my axilla was also radiated along with the chest where the breast had been. I decided I was going to fight with everything I could hence I chose to do all 3; surgery, chemo., and rads.

My stitches would be removed on april 14th and one of my drains is still not removed.

My periods stopped 2 years back. My age is 49 yrs.

Do I need chemo in addition to hormone therapy. If yes how many cycles?

Actually I am from India and here oncotype DX test is not avaiable. Would you please talk to some oncologist on my behalf and ask him what I do...take chemo or not?

      Regards,

We breast cancer patients spend a lot of time --- waiting--- for test results. I also knew my hormone status with the biopsy. We can't really say if you need further treatment...it depends on a lot of factors. Hopefully, you will soon get your test results. Take care, Sharon

It's not so cut and dried.... The good thing, your hormone status is a great one to have. My doctor told me if you have to have breast cancer....this is the type to have.

I had to have four rounds of chemo because I had a positive lymph node. That was the deal breaker for me. I can't talk to an oncologist for you because you aren't me. You need to talk to your own oncologist who will have all the information about your tumor. Breast cancer is made up of so many factors, it is impossible to go by your description to possibly choose the future of your life. Talk to your doctor about statistics. I had four rounds of AC, and I am alive and healthy six years later. I also had five years of Letrozole as a hormone blocker. Take care, Sharonn
