None of it is is better. It is just was is decided is best in your individual case. Leah is right. When chemo is done first it is the attempt to get the tumor to shrink before surgery is done. It all depends on the stage, size and grade of your tumor. Whatever the oncologist and surgeon decide is always what is best for you. Take care, Sharon

I don't agree that the decision is totally up to your doctors. One must take charge of their own health. Do the research, ask questions and collaboratively with your physicians do what is best for you. I did not agree 100% with my surgeon she wanted to do a lumpectomy and for my own piece of mind I wanted a mastectomy. It's your body , do what is best for you !

When you get chemo first they can see if the tumor shrinks. I don't know if one is better than the other. I removed mine then removed breast. I would of like to see chemo working, but I wanted the cancer out.

Hi Karen , I had neo adjuvant chemotherapy it gave me peace of mind. I actually felt the lump disappear ! I opted in the end to have a bilateral mastectomy and have no regret. Good luck to you

I did chemo first... To shrink tumor for a better cosmetic result. After 6 rounds my cancer was GONE! Best of luck!

Not only do you hope to shrink tumor but you get chemo in whole body. If it is know that it is your nodes from biopsy and is grade three it is very reassuring to do chemo first rather that giving cancer chance to grow other places while you do surgery and recover. With it first many cancers are shrunk to nothing!

My oncologist recommended chemo. first but the surgeon nixed it. I had decided to have a mastectomy so by trying to shrink the size of my tumor first would have been impractible in my case but in others cases it works from what I've read.
