How soon after chemo do you start on Tamoxofen? My onc says two weeks after chemo. So I'll be on it while doing radiation.

I was started on Femara 3 weeks after chemo. I had only taken them for a month when I started radiation treatments and was taken off of them until the radiation is done as I guess they can counteract with each other in some way. I was told as long as my skin is in good shape I can start them again after I complete radiation but if it's not my onc. will tell me when to start in again.

Some radiation oncologists don't mind if you are on it during rads and some say no. You should ask your medical oncologist and your rad oncologist what they prefer. And voice what you prefer;)

I waited until after radiation to start tamoxifen. If I had any side effects, I wanted to know where they were coming from!

I didn't have radiation, but I did start taking it about a month after I finished chemo and Was getting chemo. So it sounds like you are on schedule. I have to inform that tamoxofen can cause severe hotflashes so you wanna ask your doctor to prescribe effexor. It helps with the hot flashes. The night sweats can be bad too, so don't be afraid to ask for something to help you sleep. All this is doable! Best wishes and stay kool...lol

I just finished my last round of Taxtere on Friday. My doctor is having me wait a month to clear out a bit - then I'll have a hormone test to find out if I'm pre or post menopausal. If pre I'll take Tamoxifen - if post I'll take Arimidex.
