What makes the decision as to whether you get Herceptin every week or the triple dose every 3 weeks ?

With chemo it can be. 1/3 of a dose every 7 days or a full dose every 21 days - depending on your chemo schedule... Usually alone it goes to once every 21 days... Since I was weekly with chemo we are starting Herceptin alone every 14 days ... And the will bump to 21 days... No matter how delivered the total 21 day Dise will Elbe same... Amazing to be living on a conscience level ona21 day cell cycle... I have never thought so much about my cells before- I can even give a pretty good explanation of mitosis and why the mitotic grade is important to us. .

Thanks ladies ! For some reason, this news of switching from every week to every 3 weeks for Herceptin wasn't shared with me and it was a surprise on my first visit back 2 weeks after my last Taxol. It sounds like a standard protocol, just wish it was communicated to me earlier...

  The sisters on here told me to ask for a treatment plan.. I got it all written down for me with dates! I would not have known if I did not ask for plan.. Sorry you did not know!

Stage 1 Paciente

Julie I had mine weekly with chemo for 6 months. Then switched to ever 3 weeks for 6 months. If there had been a problem with my heart or bad reaction, I would have to go back down to the weekly dose. I had no problems with it. Prayers to you.

I wasn't given any choices . I think if u get herceptin along with chemo, it's every three weeks n when chemo is done, herceptin alone every three weeks, until one year total herceptin done.

Stage 2B Paciente

The plan for my Herceptin has changed a few times and I am still not sure what will happen...I start it when I switch from AC to Taxol - and then will continue for year. before cancer was found in my notes I was set for TCH chemo 8 times every three weeks. With Herceptin and now I am AC then Taxol/Herceptin every two weeks for 16 weeks. Then not sure on frequency of Herceptin for a year. I think they determine based on stage of cancer size of mass and node involvement. hugs and strength to you.

Not sure Mine is every other week with chemo for now Then it switches to every three weeks thru June of next year

After finishing my regular chemo regimen I had herceptin every week for a while...maybe a month or 2? Then it switched to every 3 weeks for the remainder of the year, which I think is standard protocol.
