Hi ladies, My mother is on treatment 24 of 28, then she'll be getting 3 to 5 Boosts, so far, her skin has been good,no redness, no peeling, no blisters, perhaps those that have been through this could tell if the boosts are worse? Than normal rads? here in South Africa, the protocol, seems a bit different, my mom hasn't been allowed to wet that breast @ all, just a gentle wipe, and then apply Maizena (corn starch) powder to the breast, and for her underarms, she's been allowed no deodorants, no creams or anything! No bra allowed, and Loose clothing! I must say for those that are going to start this, my mom has breased through rads so far, she was so scared, and didn't want to do radiation, Because 6 months of Chemo was really really tough! God Bless you all!

Tamara, they should tell you at your Radiation Center exactly what they will allow you to use. I was not permitted to use any creams, lotions, etc. until the Radiation Oncologist, whom I saw weekly, decided that my skin needed treatment. He then allowed me to use Aquaphor only, to the affected areas (which were minimal.) It worked great. Other Drs. allow other creams/lotions/ointments. It is best to follow their guide. Good Luck. Radiation goes by quickly.

My radiologist allows aloe, aloe 99% pure, and aquaphor. One other thing that I did not get is called Miaderm. I use the 99% gel immediately after treatment. At night I use aloe from my aloe plant. Also use aquaphor, especially on the weekends. That is very healing. No deodorant is allowed. I use baking soda which works great. Every morning before rads, I wash well to make sure the radiation area is free of everything. Otherwise, you will burn. I have completed 19 out of 30 treatments, & my skin is holding up very well.

The laser is something very new... I am basically in a trial w/laser treatment on the breast during radiation. Both of my doctors are working together with this type of treatment of laser & radiation. It is suppose to help keep the skin soft and help with necrosis. I have been taking photo's of my breast since I found out.

You say nothing on the skin so I'm assuming that includes deodorant since I had nodes removed?

Oops sorry... (-: I have not used deodorant in months. A light dusting of corn starch with a powder brush. (Is what my radiation group advised)

I'd love to know too as I start on the 17th. I've used Aquafor when I was using medication on my bottom lip that I found out later acted as a chemical peel but it worked on that.

My first treatment is scheduled for the 17th, 2 days after I move to a new city. I plan on driving myself as I don't want to depend on others if I can help it. I did drive for 3 of 4 chemo. treatments and did fine so I should be OK.

Thanks Tamara, as I hate depending on others unless it is necessary. I got to pick my time and hopefully picked one without alot of traffic but one never knows what may happen before I hit the road to get to the center.
