My doctor suggested that I start tamoxifen, but I'm scared of the side effects. I'm 26 and want to return to my life. She also said that my PR is not to high so IF I can't take if it's no big deal. I have the prescription, I'm but not sure what to do.

Hi Christina. I'm 24, had a double mastectomy and just finished with 6 rounds of chemo. I'm currently recovering from my reconstructive surgery. I will begin almost 8 weeks of radiation soon and then will be given Tamoxifen. I am anxious to begin living again but you know what, I plan to live for many, many years. And I would hate to have to put my life on pause again because I decided not to take Tamoxifen. Side effects from this are not too bad, I have heard. This is how I look at it, nothing can be worst than chemo! If you were able to handle that... You can take on anything. I suggest you put a lot of thought into your decision and follow what would be best for your health and well-being. I hate the fact that I have had to go through this while all my friends just graduated from college and are embarking in a new chapter. I, on the other hand, will have to pick things off where I left off but it makeshift tremendously happy to know I will be better than ever and ready to take on anything that tries to bring me down. XOXO

I didn't have an oncotype test. My tumor was triple positive so the chemo would definitely help me.

I have been on Tamoxifen for about 8 months and I is not that bad really, I haven't had too many side effects and no weight gain. I think it would be best to cover all bases just to be sure. Give it a go and see how you go with it.

I am to start tamoxifen in a few weeks also. You never know what kind of side effects you will have until you start it. You may find it doesn't effect you at all. Best of luck.

I started tamoxifen a month ago and I am having some crazy hot flashes but they don't last long and I can tolerate that. That is really the only thing I notice from taking it so far. Good luck
