I had a lump removed and went through radiation. Now the doctor wants me to take a cancer pill. I am not sure about this. You must take the pill for five years and there are a lot of side effects! Any suggestions?

Yes, this pill blocks the estrogen and kills off the cells which get estrogen to them. That is what the doctor told me.

The way I understand it, it seems to be pretty common. My breast surgeon told me about then my oncologist told me also. They we the ones who set up the app. For me. Have you heard any bad things about femara?

I have been on tamoxifen for two years. There are side effects but that is true for any medicine. For me it gives me the comfort that I am doing something to prevent a recurrence of the cancer.

There are different choices for hormone possitive cancer. Much depends on your age. Many women take Tamoxifen, other who are post menapause take an aromitase inhibitor such as Aremidex, Femara, and others. Each one is has different side effects. Much like the other treatments, how you react is different for each person. I am currently taking Femara. At first I did have joint pain. I found that as lond as I stay active I can control that. I also have headaches. For that I found that taking B2 lessons the headache. They are caused from the depleating estrogin, so it's a good thing. My feeling is that I will do whatever it takes to reduce my risk of going through this again. So if it means putting up with a little discomfort, so be it. I figure you go through alot of these things with the natural ageing process anyway.

I started taking my femara today and will let know if I get any side effects. I was wondering how long it takes for the medication to get into your system before you start noticing the side affects.

Hormone treatments are usually started after you have finished all your other treatments. (I say usually because each woman is different) I started mine about 3 months after my last Radiation treatment.

Sorry, hit the wrong button on the iPad. When I get exhausted from the constant extreme hot flashes and other effects, I remember that this medication is helping me from growing another tumor. The treatment for breast cancer is much worse than the side effects from these drugs. I am most grateful to God for allowing these drugs to be developed. I had 5 years of severe muscle cramps also with the tamoxifen. It was all worth it. Do as your doctor tells you, that i

Yes these drugs like any have their side affects but if taking them prolongs my life and gives me a better chance of it never reoccurring I'm happy to put up with them. The only tip I can give you is to stay active ,

to me it to me it seems that disease or discomfort caused by treatment, is somehow worse than the original disease. Had a mastectomy. Thought would be the end of it. No 1 to help no 1 to do anything. They're proposing chemo therapy, tthat five-year pill, AND radiation. If I am so tired cannot keep my garden up and clean my house, that's the end of my life I will just have to walk off a cliff. Which isn't aa lot of fun. Got mentally ill son , nothing to live for. in fact if I died, wouldn't have to watch him die, guess they're always some advantages to anything. Cancer could be looked on as a gift to escape a rubbish life. but it's hard not to worry about it. It is the worry that is the killer. chemo therapy looks to me like one of those Heironymous Bosch paintings, how can anyone live with all that horror and ugliness ? is there any point ? something is going to get you even if the cancer doesn't. What I fear most is being crippled and helpless, which it seems, the treatments are likely to do, bone thinning and arthritis are the most terrifying, mmy mil my mother lived in hell for 20 years and was any point at all, once you've seen something like that you do not want to go through it yourself. I could stop where I am, just the mastectomy. Like that game of cards, where you just stop with what you've got.
