Just being there for her will help. She will need someone to talk with and even cry if she feels the need to. She will be OK.

You might call your local cancer center or hospital and inquire about support groups for family members. If you have a church affiliation they may be able to help steer you in the right direction. Your school guidance counselor may help also. A trusted adult friend is also an option. You and your mom will get thru this. Some days will be tough, but things do get better. Good luck .

I concur with what everyone else has said. As a mom of two adult children, I was worried about them as to how they were handling my diagnosis almost as much as I was worried about me. I guess that’s just what moms do. So my best “mom” advice to you is to say that you need to take care of yourself. Make sure you eat right, that you get enough sleep, and at 14, I presume you’re in high school, so continue doing your best in school. I bet your mom wants you to be a kid, so take care of yourself so that you can help her.
