Can breast cancer reoccurrer after a mastectomy and saline implant. Doctor said no mammo needed .

    I did mammograms on a lady several years ago who had a recurrence on the side she had a mastectomy on and we almost thought it recurred a 2nd time but hadn't. Some times they can leave some breast tissue even with a mastectomy.

      I got thinking too with the patient I mentioned she felt a lump next to where the breast had been so we did studies on her. I don't recall what type of reconstruction she had but they did a reduction on the other side to make them more symmetrical.

    Yes, it still can. They can't completely get everything during a mastectomy, but by having it done, you eliminate as much of the risk as humanly possible of reoccurrence on your end. I had a bilateral mastectomy in March.
